python support for different PXIe boards

$

I have two questions.

1) Which board is appropriate for directing python questions?  I can't tell from the selections available.

2) Our PXIe system has the following boards in it, and I have listed what I think is the correct PyPI package supporting that board next to it:

* PXI-6738 Analog Out <--> nidaqmx

* PXIe-5413 Signal Generator <--> nifgen

* PXI-2532B Cross-point switch <--> niswitch

* PXI-6509 Digital I/O <--> nidaqmx

* PXI-4065 DMM <--> nidmm

* PXIe-5105 Scope <--> niscope

* PXIe-2575 Mux <--> niswitch

Are these the correct python packages?  The nidaqmx package seems to be a separate development effort from teh rest of the packages and I'm wondering if they are all compatible to run together as a system.

Thank you

Mesuaring Square wave voltammetry with Keithley 2614B using labview

Hello all,

I'm fairly new to LabVIEW and I have been trying to communicate with our Keithley 2614B to measure square wave voltammetry of a biosensor with three electrodes "working, counter and reference electrode" (by the way we are using it to measure CV and chronoamperometry using labview scripts developed by another guy who is not around). I have found an SWV script (please find attached) but it was made for a potentiostat. however, For now, I'm struggling to connect the device.

My question is could you please help with how to connect to the device and how to generate a square wave potential and how to measure the current.

thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Douaki

NI-VISA Drvier Issues with USB Devices

Good morning all;

Over the last couple of months I've been dealing with a maddening issue related to NI-VISA drivers, NI-MAX, LabVIEW, and Windows 7 and 10.

Our production lines utilize between one and three thermal printers to print product specific labels. In setting these printers up, the NI-VISA Driver Wizard was used to create the driver. These printers, when initially plugged in, show up in Windows Device Manager as a USB Printer. With the VISA driver created and assigned, these printers readily appeared in NI-MAX. From MAX, an alias is assigned; for this example I'll use is 'Zebra'.

On some machines, MAX/Windows/whatever has a tendency to drop the alias altogether, reverting back to the original raw USB resource. This is especially prevalent first thing in the morning as the Windows 10 machines are turned on. Sometimes this happens multiple times a day; other times a machine can go weeks between an alias being dropped. Some machines have been rock solid and have never lost an alias.

Another issue that most if not all of our machines have is the numbering of the alias. Sometimes MAX will reassign a resource with another alias name. For example, if 'Zebra' has been set and the production line runs into printer issues, I'll look in MAX and the assigned alias will be 'Zebra-5.' I've written some code that deals with this issue, but I can't write anything for the completely dropped alias. There is a push to standardize all printers and cables across all production areas in the plant, so I can't just whip up band-aid fix.

Power options in the USB settings have been adjusted appropriately. I'm frankly at a loss as to the potential cause of this issue and I'm looking for input from anyone who has ever had to deal with a similar situation. I've probably left out some pertinent information with this post, so let me know if any additional info may lead to a solution.

Thanks!

NI Max | Hardware Detection | Non NI Instruments

Hi,

When new NI hardware is connected, It will be listed in NI Max.

  • Will NI Max detects instruments from other vendors like Agilent, Keysight, Keithley, Tektronix and so on? If not what are the cases where it doesn't detect?
  • Will I be able to add simulated instruments related to Agilent, Keysight, Keithley, Tektronix and so on?
  • Will NI Max detects the instrument connected to a PC independent of the port to which the instruments are connected to?
  • Finally, how will NI Max lists the connected instruments? Is it fine to rely on NI Max APIs to detect the connected hardware?

How is running an *IDN? command using VISA API different from using NI MAX APIs. Since testing these scenarios require real hardware I was not able to find it.

Driver Fluke Ti20

Hello everyone,

I want to use the IR camera Fluke Ti20 in a LabVIEW project. Unfortunately, Fluke technical support said that commercialization of that camera stopped before the launch of Windows 7 so there is no driver for recent Windows versions (I work on Windows 10).

So I would like to know if someone in the community have already seen or have developed a driver and/or LabVIEW drivers for the Fluke Ti20.

Thank you and have a nice day

Trouble communicating with ThorLabs MIR Laser

Hello,

I am a beginner in LabVIEW and am trying to communicate with a ThorLabs MIR Laser (MLQF4550). I went to the ThorLABS software page, downloaded the drivers and have spent so many hours to just trying to make communication with the laser. However, I believe the drivers in the software page are incomplete as the directions in the ThorLABS pdf manual don't match up with the installation. I've been browsing NI and saw that NI Visa allows communication with the USB/GPIB devices. Are there any manuals that I can use to catch up so I can work on this project. I am constructing a GUI and I have heard LabVIEW is the best approach in making a GUI.

Laser System: https://www.thorlabs.com/newgrouppage9.cfm?objectgroup_ID=10097

PDF I've tried to follow but drivers dont match up: https://www.thorlabs.com/software/MUC/MLQ/TL_MIR_TKL_WYOA_V1.0_web-secured.pdf

All in all, what is the best way to communicate with the laser, to adjust the intensity/ place for loops etc/ build a GUI.

Thank you in advance

Using RS232 modem lines like CTS / RTS to detect physical connection

Hi,

I am building a simple VI for communicating with an RS232 instrument.  The instrument is old and there is little documentation.  But I got it working.  Now I am simply trying to add a quick function to the beginning of the VI to detect if the device is physically connected to my serial port (without actually opening the port and initiating communication).

I believe this might be possible by using NI-VISA to check the state of the model serial lines (like DTR / DSR / CTS / RTS).  I think I remember hearing that if the RS232 receiver sets one of these lines HIGH, then the sender responds in some way.  Any thoughts here?

I see this on my Max. I read few posts but they were unrelated. I am running Windows 10 64-bit, LabVIEW 64-bit, and MAX 19.0.0f0.

I uninstalled NI VISA and reinstalled but problem won't go away. Any thoughts?

Hey guys.

I'm using NI-9862 for CAN communication.

I’m trying to communicate with XMD-02 device by CAN(J1939).

And It past almost a week.

There are no error occur while running the VI.

But I can’t control the current.

I was trying to control 2 current about 0 ~ 700mA range.

I was trying to input the decimal but the current was 0 mA.

Is there anyone who try to communicate by J1939?

You could check the photo I take.

Fetch Measurement vs Reading Memory in Agilent 34461A Reading Speed

$

Hi there,

Recently, I have succesfully connected to an 34461A Agilent and Labview, and I am trying the Acquire Triggered Multiple VI that allows me to configure the trigger and then to send a software trigger to the instrument. When the trigger is complete the Fetch Multiple Points VI is called and measurements are completed. However, I found this method very slow, In the manual I can see 50 readings per second when measuring AC voltage, however, this is really slow for a DMM. A small and cheap microcontroller will have much faster readings per second. Am I misunderstanding something? Is 50 readings per second the time for the instrument to comunicate to the PC? If so, do you have any idea how to measure the data and storage in the internal memory? That would be really fast and will allow to access the memory and read the data in a later step.

Many thanks in advance

Cheers

Not read NI VISA head file when migrate from Excel2007 (Window XP) to Excel2013 (Window7).

I have a MS Excel VBA macro that use NI USB-GPIB-HS port to control oscilloscope. This macro works well in Excel 2007 (which is 32bit) installed in window XP (which is also 32 bit).

For communication purpose, the macro uses three references, (VISA library, MS Comm Control6.0 (sp6), and MSComm32.ocx ), as shown below (original Window XP and Excel 2007 version):

Now we need to update the operation system to window 7 (which is 64 bit) and update MS Excel from Excel 2007 to Excel 2013(which is 64 bit too). When open the original macro file in the new window7 and MS Excel 2013 version, three references are gone, shown as below:

Here is what I have done:

1. Install “ni-visa_19.0_online” (which is NI visa for win7 version) for VISA Library. System visa library has been installed.

2. -- copy mscomm32.ocx (window7 version) to the directory C:\Windows\System32

    -- copy mscomm32.ocx (window7 version) to C:\Windows\SysWOW64

    -- type in “regsvr32 mscomm32.ocx” in the command window to register mscomm32.ocx
       system shows that mscomm32.ocx has been successfully registered.

3. Download “NETComm.ocx” for window 7 and install it.

After these three steps, the win7 and excel 2013 does not complain the reference missing, shown in the following image:

However, when I run the macro in win7 using excel 2013, it complains that the parameter “VI_FIND_BUFLEN” is not defined. Please see the following image.

Obviously, this parameter is defined in VISA head file in the directory: C:\Program Files\IVI Foundation\VISA\Win64\Include, this parameter is defined to be 256.

Now the problem points to that the visa library is not property included, which causes the right head file for 64 bit operation system is not included.

In order to include the 64 bit VISA header file, what .dll file should be referenced?
