NIMAX connection with GPIB-USB-HS

I am attempting to try and communicate with a Newport Conerstone Monochromator (manual) through a GPIB-USB-HS USB to GBIB controller. I have used the GPIB-USB-HS controller with a SR860 lock-in amplifier and it works fine.


When I connect the GPIB-USB-HS to the monochromator the NI-MAX registers an instrument and it shows the Primary Address as 4 (which is the default according to page 57 of manual) but it doesn't find the model or the status. I also get the instrument did not respond to the *IDN? command error. This may not be unexpected as the device may not respond to this as page 57 in the manual lists a INFO? command which mimicks the IDN command.


Using the NI-488.2 Communicator and trying to send the command "INFO?[lf]" (or "INFO? [cr][lf]"). I get a timeout error, in both the write and read function. Same thing happens if I try to communicate using the VISA test pannel.


Included with the monochromator is a software known as monoterm. I am unable to connect to this program through the GPIB-USB-HS either.


I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the associated software to no avail. If anyone has any experience with these devices or has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

after creating the exe file, VISA gives an error

A simple Visa data exchange program stops working after an exe file is created, while GPIB exchange is possible, and through TCPIP it gives error -1073807298. In Vi both protocols work. What could be the problem?

 Sir/madam, I need a Labview VI for interfacing Keithley 2010 multimeter and want to measure the voltage with time. I have checked in NI website for drivers and VI but for 2010 is not there. There are VI for 2000 and 2001.
Please, could you send any VI related to Keithley 2010 interfacing?

Serial data comes in with delay and in inconsistent batches

Hi everyone,

 

I'm having issues with getting quick, smooth data from a serial device. Data currently comes in large chunks (0-4000 bytes), interspersed by many empty reads, which results in visibly delayed acquisition of data. (Chunks come in at ~4 Hz.) I know that streaming smooth, timely data (at a very high frequency) is possible, because we have a MATLAB Simulink program that is able to achieve this with the same device (using FIFO Read Binary).

 

I'm currently streaming data from a device that sends packet data without termination characters. Each packet starts with [45, 62] and is then followed by seven bytes of data. The attached VI uses a consumer-producer loop. The producer handles serial communication while the consumer is a state machine that identifies headers and then processes them into usable form. I suspect the issue is with the producer loop, but I included the entire subVI for examination. It's currently written to be part of a larger program (stops are linked to a ref and all data goes into a queue).

 

Things I've tried include:

  1. Reading 1000 bytes, with 0 timeout. This results in the same behavior.
  2. Reading 4 or fewer bytes with 10000 timeout. This results in functionally the same behavior as above, except rather than returning empty data, it just waits for a moment before returning a "burst" of reads over many iterations of the producer loop.
  3. Using a timed loop with T=1ms, timeout=1, read 4 bytes. Very smooth data coming in, but very significant lag between device and LabVIEW read data.
  4. Using a timed loop with T=1ms, timeout=1, read 36 bytes. Same as original issue, with "chunky" data stream.

Any advice or help would appreciated. I suspect there's something I'm misunderstanding about serial ports, and could use guidance from y'all.

Error line goes nowhere

Hello

I recently inherited some old code, which i was tasked to update.

In this code there is an element that confuses me (image below).

 

Basically an action is chosen with a case structure, connection established with VISA (first error bracket) and then data is read/written via VISA (second error bracket). What confuses me here is an error line that starts empty before a timed loop that runs through all case structures, but nothing is ever done to it, as error handling is done on a separate error line. This line is then shifted before a new timed loop begins. When timed loop runs out, data from register is written to a state machine.

 

So basically, what is the purpose of this?

Drivers generated by VISA driver wizard not compatible (Server 2016)

I am trying to generate a driver for a USB device which used to be a piece of cake on Windows 7. I am using NI VISA driver wizard v18.5 on a Windows Server 2016 OS. Is the wizard capable of generating drivers for Server 2016?

Unable to Install NI-VISA 17.0 Runtime

Hello I am a LabVIEW developer and trying to deploy some software I created that utilizes NI-VISA to some other colleagues' PCs, but I've tried 3 different people now within my corporation unable to install the NI-VISA 17.0 Runtime Engine. The first time they run the installer it gets to around 6-8% and freezes and every subsequent time it just stays at 0%. I've contacted my IT department and they've tried to run the installer as administrator and that still doesn't work. I still have a feeling it has something to do with our security software, but I don't know enough to say what might be causing the issue. My IT department doesn't know what to do either. Has anyone else experienced this issue and have a solution or any other ways around needing the NI-VISA runtime engine? These PCs are HP Laptops running Windows 10 Enterprise Version 1709.

NiViTulip.dll

Hello,

I'm trying to use a Keysight 82357B (USB-GPIB converter) with NI MAX. With older version of NI MAX this worked proprerly. Now I'm using NI MAX 19.0 and it doesn't work.

The problem is that even if Tulip dll is installed I can't find it in NI max. Do you have any idea to solve this problem?

GPIB 488.2 Driver

I downloaded NI-488.2 version 17.6 for Windows 10.  I unzipped it and completed the installation and restarted the PC.  There is no NationalInstruments.NI4882.dll. How can I get that DLL?  I need the DLL for a VB.NET application. THX

UART communication between FPGA(DE0) and PC

Hi everyone and sorry for my poor English.

 

*Progress
I am developing measurement system on FPGA board(DE0) to communicate with 24bit-ADC(AD7190) via SPI and send digitized data to PC via UART(CP2012 : SiLabs is used). Also I am developing application which receive data from FPGA by UART and display it on graph by using Labview. And measuring condition is below.
*number of bits = 24(bit)
*sampling rate = 10(sps)
*baudrate = 19200(bps)
About UART settings in Labivew, the default settings are used exclude baudrate.


*Problem
When I use some terminal software(ex. Teraterm) for debug, I was able to receive 24bit-data(actually 3 byte) successfully without packet loss. But when I did same thing by Labview, sometimes packet loss was occurred randomly as shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. In the both figure, return counts means how many bytes were received.

 

*Questions
How should I do to improve packet loss??
I want any comments or advices...

Tulip.dll not in passport list

I need to use an agilient GPIB IO module but I cannot find tulip.dll in the passports section of NI Max. I re-installed NI-Visa to no avail. Do I need the keysight IO lib suite? Any ideas?

Watlow F4 Read Temp

Hey guys, I have been using the Watlow F4 single channel controller for almost 2 weeks now and have encoutered a problem I can't solve. To read the temp I use R? 100,1 as the modbus protocol command to the GPIB. Most of the time it will read the correct temp on the LCD, but will sometimes glitch on some numbers. For example, when the temperature is at a constant temp of 29, the LCD will show that number bu t the labview visa read will show it as "29"  or "2;" randomly. The issue also occurs for "49" making it "4=" or "85" to "8=". Any help and adivce would be appreciated.

we are running our lab setup on WIN7 and soon we have to switch to WIN10.

PCI-7344 was listed as an obsolete card already. Does anyone by chance has this card running on WIN10 daqmx?

Error 63 of TCP open

Hi,

I'm trying to connect the an instrument using TCP/IP protocol. This instrument is server and my PC is client according the manual. The simple code is attached below. But the error 63 occurs in TCP open, saying "The network connection was refused by the server."   

 

However, in the NI VISA I/O test panel, the communication with the server is fine. I can get the correct reply from it. The IP address/portal number are correct and I can ping the server. Do you know what is wrong here?
