Errors when connecting RS232-USB to LabView through NI MAX

$

Hello,

I am currently trying to operate a Lumencor laser array through LabView. As of right now I am using a FDTI RS232-USB adapter. In NI MAX, I am able to identify my device (COM-3, see attached screenshot). However, when trying to communicate with the device over LabView I either cannot obtain a connection, or get an error back (also attached). The port settings I am using on NI MAX are the following:

Baud Rate: 9600

Data Bits: 8

Parity: None

Stop Bits: 1

Flow Control: None

When attempting to manually communicate with the device using the VISA Test Panel, I am able to write operation *IDN?\n but when I try to Read it returns a timeout error (Hex 0xBFFF0015). I've also attached the VI that is returning the error. Upon initial start up of LabView, I am occasionally able to detect the COM ports for ~2 seconds, but soon have the error returned to me. Could this be an issue with the driver setup, or am I missing a step in the communication between LabView and the instrument?

Thank you

Using NI USB-GPIB to control Zeiss C90 CMM controller

I have a Zeiss CMM running PCDMIS 32bit on Windows XP with PCI to GPIB (488.2 2.7.3)

If the controller is 8bit but works with my 32bit system already, can I export the VISA config file, change to a Windows 7 64bit computer with a USB to GPIB, and import that file back into a newer the 488.2 driver?  (will the bit change or a newer version of 488.2 be a problem?)

GPIB to USB randomly disconnecting

I am using windows 7 to communicate to 6 devices through GPIB with the GPIB to usb hardware. Lately I've been running into the problem of getting a driver error after a few hours of testing. When I start the program over, it reconnects fine and I can control all my devices again. I am using a .NET program, the gpib to usb is plugged into a powered usb hub. Has anyone else have this issued and fixed it? Thanks in advance.

CLIP Generator for Serial TTL on SB-RIO

1. I'm unable to read and write to VN-100 sensor. The sensor is connected to SB-RIO 9627 using 3.3volts TX RX lines (PIN 8 and 9 on the sensor). Using CLIP generator in LabVIEW I have setup two pins dedicated for TX and RX. But I get timeout error when trying to write to it. There is nothing wrong with the logic since it works when the sensor is connected to the serial port of the computer. Any ideas? How shall I proceed debugging this?

2. Maybe I should connect PIN 2 and 3 from the sensor to the RMC board?

3. Also, on the clip generator page it says "This page configues the serial p.... (RS-232)". But RS232 can be more than 3.3volts and the FPGA pins on the RMC Board are rated for 3.3 volts. Can you clarify this?

I'm probably in the wrong forum but didn't know where to start.  I'm very new to all of this, but want to learn - this will probably be very easy to most of you.  I have a 2 wire electromagent and want to write a program to turn on and off.  What hardware do I need?

Second Instrument issues EADR (3) when our device is connected as an instrument

Using the NI PCI-GPIB we have connected our device (a part handler) to a teradyne test system and we have addressed our software to be a listener ie not a bus controller.  When the Teradyne system test software runs it is able to communicate with our device but we are apparently blocking communications to other devices.  Attached is the NI SPY log and the error is seemingly straight forward as if we are addressed to the same address as the the device that can no longer communicate but we quickly verified that we are set to different primary addresses.  I am unsure what other settings we are missing here or what might cause this error to generate when we are connected into the system but any advice/information would be most helpful.  I have also attached a jpg of the LabVIEW software we use to initialize the GPIB communications and it is pretty straight forward ie only a few command calls.

Some more info:  previously we were setting the SRQ line to tell the tester that we have a device ready for test and we initially thought that the SRQ line might be stuck and causing this error so we recently modified our code to respond a polling command to circumvent setting the SRQ to no avail.

Communicating with two SR830 Lock-in instruments using one GPIB-USB interface

Hey All,

I need to talk to two SR830 Lock-in instruments at the same time. They both seem to have the same GPIB Primary address. Hence i am unable to communicate with them using a single USB-GPIB cable. The lokckins are connected with individual GPIB cables.

Is there a way to talk to them simultaneously. Please let me know.

Thank you.

Controlling a MARKENRICH Relay Tester

I have developed a LabVIEW program to replace the original DBase driven program to operate the MARKENRICH RT-250 Relay Tester.  With the lost of support from Microsoft on DBase files, the origianl program is useless on the new OS or/and updated office products.  I made use of .ini and excel format files to configure and control the test sequence and test parameters.

I am not sure if there is any interest, but I have the completed program and can advise on its use.

sbRIO 9607 IP address and little more problems

Hi,

I just got a new sbRIO 9607 to do a project. I powered the device with a 9VDC 300mA power supply and connected to the development computer with a cross-over ethernet cable. I use LabVIEW 15.0 and tried to configure via MAX. I can detect the device but a Inconsistent IP address problem occurs.  It connects to the network with a link-local IP address as stated in the user manual.

- The system settings page does not show IP address

- Network settings page shows static IP4 address but nothing on the page is configurable as you   can see in the attachment.

  I understand that different subnets lead to error but i couldn't configure it.

- I updated all drivers but still no change

- Resetting the device makes power LED and Status LED blink simultaneously once every second. Does this mean there is not enough power?

The power requirement according to user manual is 11.36 Watts and supply Im using right now gives 9V* 300 mA whcih is low.

Connecting with an sbRIO 9623 yields no problem with IP address and everything.

Any help is appreciable...

Unable to Read SRQ Request over GPIB Bus

Hi Guys ,

Am a newbie in GPIB Programming with no experience. I am currently working on a project which require to Listen to data communication between Controller and Device via GPIB Bus.

The controller being NI GPIB-USB Controller connected to instrument which is to be controlled. My idea was to attach another GPIB-USB Adaptor (Currently am using Prologix GPIB-USB Controller) in LISTEN ONLY mode to see the data communication between the Controller and instrument.

I am able to collect all the commands sent from Controller to Instrument and reply from instrument, But unable to see any SRQ Code. Only those are missing. , Can anyone guide me on what am i doing wrong. Am using python's PySerial Module to achieve this. I have attached a sample code as below ,

CODE:

import os.path
import serial
import sys
from time import sleep

comport = '/dev/ttyUSB0'
# addr = '5'

ser = serial.Serial()

try:
    ser = serial.Serial( comport, 9600, timeout=0.5 )

    # Switch to DEVICE mode
    cmd = '++mode 0'
    print('Sending:', cmd)
    cmd = cmd + '\n'
    ser.write(cmd.encode('UTF-8'))

    # Set instrument to LISTEN ONLY mode
    cmd = '++lon 1'
    print('Sending:', cmd)
    cmd = cmd + '\n'
    ser.write(cmd.encode('UTF-8'))

     # Read the Data from GPIB BUS
    while(True):
        s = ser.read();
        if len(s) > 0:
            print(s)

When the Controller Issue a Command "T" to the instrument , It reponse back with an SRQ 49 , But in the Data Log collected , I only see the Next Command issue after T and cannot read the SRQ service number. But when i check the devide log , i can see that the Device replied with SRQ 49 After receiving command "T" from Controller.

Can anyone suggest what am i missing in here ? Am using the Prologix GPIB USB Controller in Device Mode and in LISTEN ONLY setting.

DSO5054A Drivers

Which one should i use?

I already have installed the IVI driver but there is the problem that the signal on the oscilloscope starts at 0 V and ends at 2.5 V on the y-axis but in my LabView programm it starts at 700 mV and ends at about 1350 mV...

Can you pls tell me what I'm doing wrong?Unbenannt.PNG

Interface between HYDAC HMG 3000 and Labview

Hello everyone,

We already have a HYDAC HMG 3000 to acquire signals of different sensors (pressure, flow, ...). This interface is already connected to a computer by a serial USB cable (Type B to Type A) and we can see the values of the sensors on the screen of the computer using the software HMGWIN 3000. We would like to use the values of the sensors in Labview but we havn't got the protocol transfert informations of HYDAC. If somebody has already try to read the values of a HMG 3000 using Labview, I would appreciate very much its help.

Measuring both voltages and resistances with DMM + Switch every second

$

Hello,

I have a PXI-4071 DMM and a PXI-2527 Switch. I need to measure 24 differential voltages and 2 thermistor resistances every second. I'm trying to do switch scanning with the DMM. The switch will be in 2-Wire 32x1 Mux mode.

My question is, is it feasible to change the DMM measurement type between DC Volts and 2-wire Resistance and acquire 26 measurements every second? Is it going to affect the DMM's lifespan in any way?

Any relevant tips will be appreciated.

How to detect instrument connected to USB port on sbRIO 9607

$

Hi,

Background:

I have a IMU sensor that I connected to PC's USB port and was able to acquire data in JSON string. I used VISA with a virtual COM port as VISA source. Just opening a connection was enough to read data needless of writing anything to the sensor.

Current scene:

Now I would like to Implement the same acquisition process but on a sbRIO-9607 with the on-board USB port in RealTime. I connected the same sensor to USB but I could not detect it in either MAX or in Labview. I see 7 ASRL::INSTR ports under the hardware of sbRIO but plugged in sensor.

Is it even possible to Read data with usb on sbRIO and use in RealTime VI??

Could someone please guide me as to how I should detect it and how I could acquire data from it...

Regards

Gokul

Keysight E5270B not showing in ni-MAX, however detected in Keysight IO library suites.

Hi all,

I'm completely new in Labview and Instrumentation. I got into this field to enhance my skills and undergo some measurement project.

I installed keysight IO library suites and it can detect my instrument as shown as attached picture:

But it didnt shows up in MAX after i installed NI-VISA. However, i was able to detect the instrument in labview "find instrument driver" .

I have also enabled keysight 488 option in keysight suites and NIvisatulip.dll.

Would it be neccesary for a device to shows up in MAX so that it can be connected in LabVIEW?

Listen only GPIB Labview

$

I have an application where I need to listen only on the GPIB bus (NOT be a controller or interfere in any way with the controller).  Then, when I see the information come across that I'm looking for, I need to use that to trigger another portion of my LabVIEW code (trigger another measurement and write to file).  This is why I can't simply use NI spy to listen.

I'm having trouble finding the proper block in LabVIEW that doesn't lock up the bus while listening.  Can someone advise what to use?

Thank  you!
