I have a GPIB-USB-HS cable, I have been using it at my company for 4+ years. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 software (from Windows 7). I installed NI MAX ver-20.0.0f0. In device manager it showed the cable has enumerated when I plugged it into the USB port, but the NI MAX software stated "This GPIB device is not a genuine National Instruments product, Error code - 37056" (see attached image).
Here are the details for the cable:
Part #: 187965G-01L
Serial #: 15E4D11
As you can see from the attached pictures, the cable is a National Instruments cable with a National Instruments chip inside.
I understand from other posts on this forum that the work-around for this issue is to use ver-17.0 of the NI-MAX software. If someone from NI technical support can help me locate that software that would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards

Hi! I have an Agilent 34401A, and I am connecting it to a PC to have automated data acquisition through LabVIEW. However, when I plug the multimeter into the USB port, it comes up as an unknown device without drivers installed. I've tried following the following directions: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000019PFISA2&l=en-US
The problem is that when I try to update the driver or install a driver, the correct drivers aren't available. I can't find NI-488.2 (which I've installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled) or the Agilent34401A drivers. They aren't listed as drivers on my device and if I try navigating to their folders separately, the device manager says there weren't available drivers for my device in that folder. Am I missing something? Once the drivers are downloaded and stalled with NI package manager, is there some extra step?
Hello.
I have a question during gpib ni488-2 communication.
When you communicate gpib, you can see that the talker/listener switches automatically whenever you send and receive commands.
However, I would like to know if there is a way to forcibly change the talker/listener using the NI API function.
For example, a communication problem occurs in the following situations: (EABO)
A: Controller PC
B: Not Controller PC
A Send to B: "SAMPLE CMD"
B Send to A: SRQ(0x44)
B Send to A: "SAMPLE CMD REPLY" <<- A problem occurred when the command could not be sent because it is not a talker
So I want to send the command right after B delivers SRQ Signal to A in the above situation.
Can't I force change B to talker and send command to A?
Please help me a lot.

Hi guys!
I hope this is in the right section.
In our company we are evaluiating Ni Vision Builder for automated inspection.
I need to switch inspectioins
I found this article:
https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000019RI9SAM&l=de-AT
My problem is, that I do not have the option for switch the inspections.
Could it be that it is not included in the Evaluation package?
Thank you in advance!
Best regards

Hi everyone,
I'm a student and working on a project. I am supposed to communicate with a device. There is behind this device, a RS-232 port. The problem, is that the device only indicate me the baud rates with noticed "RS-485 interface" (there is not noticed parity, number of stop-bit ...).
I tried to communicate with him with RS-232 port but it didn't work ... 😞 . I would like to know if there is a difference between RS-232 and RS-485 port because i found nothing on internet ...
Thanks you very much !
PS : i'm a french student, sorry if my english isn't very good ! ^^
Good evening!
I am having some (= a lot 😞 ) of troubles in understanding how to communicate with a frequency counter (HP 53131A).
As I said in the title, the GPIB port of the instrument is connected to the GPIB of GPIB-232CT-A and the serial port is connected to a RS232-USB converter that finally enters in usb port of my pc. The GPIB-serial converter is set to work in S mode.
I tried to use the driver for the instruments but there is no way I can have a response even a simple *IDN?, getting always a VISA timeout error.
As VISA resource name I give the com name associated to the usb and I checked the configuration (baud date, parity, etc.), that corresponds to the one on the 232CT-A.
Is the any other info or parameter I should check to make my pc communicate with the instrument?
Hi,
I installed visa driver with el8 package el8 for centos 8. (yum install ni-visa )
I call visa in my labview program, and i can't find the card i must drive.
Utility visaconf send error message at launch, and when refreshing peripherics:
"
Can't find library libniPythonInterface.so.
Make sure this library is installed in LD_LIBRARY_PATH
"
Any solution?
libniPythonInterface.so Library is missing from all of my directories.
Hello everyone,
I am trying to link my computer to my keythley 26-36B in RS-232. I have been able to communicate in RS 232 with a simple multimeter with NI MAX but when i try with my Keythley 26-36B, i have problems.
I thought it might be the parameters (baud rate, parity, etc.) but they are matched on Ni Max and on the keythley 26-36B.
If you have any ideas/advices.
The error on NI Max is a timeout error. It look likes it can not even reach the keythley 26-36B.
Have a great day.
Hi all,
I am trying to stablish communication between a monochromator from Newport, more specifically, CS260 Oriel Cornerstone trough a USB port. I have installed the drivers from Newport webpage ftp://download.newport.com/Oriel/Monochromators%20and%20Spectrographs/Cornerstone%20Monochromator%20Series/API/V2.3.2/
When I try to run the VI of the monochromator in Labview 2019, the arroy is broken and no communication is stablished. It seems like Labview does not recognize the monocromator drives, so I have no control over the Newport monochromator.
If something similar happened to you with this Newport CS USB (oriel 260 cornerstone model), could you please give me some guidance?
thank you.
Hello,
I have a routine perfectly functional under Labview, where I collect data from multiple GPIB devices. All of them are connected via an USB port.
When I create an installer, on the laptop with the Labview licence all works well. If I try to deploy my installer to another laptop, it just record data from 1 of the 4 GPIB devices.
What am I doing wrong!
Many thanks!
Hello,
I'm using the NI-VISA Driver Wizard to install the .inf file for my GPIB-USB-HS device. When I get to the installation options the install option is greyed out. I verified with our IT department that I have full admin rights on my computer. I've tried multiple computers and encounter the same issue. What would cause this to be greyed out? I'm using Windows 10 (64 bit) and attached screenshots.
Thanks,
Mike
I have a big problem...
I have a NI 7842R but i can't install driver... It is unbelievable, because I will try all driver version from 18 to 20 but I have every time a problem... installation is every time cancelled...

Please could you help me please?

Is there a newer version of the NI-VISA Programmer's Reference Manual somewhere? All I can find is this:
https://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/370132c.pdf
from 2003. What would be even better would be if there's also some kind of SDK.
I would like to control some GPIB devices from a compiled exe. I found the example c files from a Labview2014 install and am trying to compile the example 488query using gcc from the mingw-w64 environment. I really don't know what I am doing with the gcc inputs, I just tried a couple I found in the n4882 example ReadMe. I confirmed %NIEXTCCOMPILERSUPP% is an environmental variable pointing to the directory with decl-32.h, ni488.h, and ni4882.h. Using the following command:
I get the following output/error:
I have also tried compiling with as directed in the readme:
and I get the following:
Any help would be appreciated,
Brett
I'm trying to read some thermocouples from an AG34980A with 34921T terminal block using Labview 2018. I'm using the "AG34980A Configure Thermocouple.vi" to configure the channels to read Type-T thermocouples with the "internal" reference junction. But when I read them using the "AG34980A Measure Thermocouple.vi" it changes the reference junction back to "Fixed" and gives me wrong results.
I opened the "AG34980A Measure Thermocouple.vi" and it is sending this command: MEAS:TEMP? TC,T,DEF,(@1001:1040,2001:2020). In the past I used exactly this VIs to measure thermocouples using AG34980A and it always worked (LV2014).
I posted this same question at Keysight community: https://community.keysight.com/message/95539. If I have solution there I'll post it here also.
PS: this VI's came from the Labview Drivers supplied from Keysight for this instrument and are not supported by National Instruments.
Hi,
I have a Horiba (Laqua) PC1100 meter that has a USB connection. Currently, the PC recognizes the device and is assigned under universla serial bus controller, but LabVIEW does not recognize this when trying to set a Serial connection. Does anyone know how to create a COM port and assign the instrument to this port?
Thanks,
Simon
Hello,
unfortunately we do not use labview, labwindows or CVI and are therefore looking for a way to control the amplifier via matlab. Is there a possibility to take over the commands to control the PXI-5691 in matlab?
Best regards
