Modbus 6101

I have a rather simple Modbus tool for reading a few parameters from a small Fuji drive with MB init and MB master query blocks.

This vi works exactly as intended on the original machine where it was developed with Labview 8.5 with PXI-8423 providing the RS-485 to the drive for the Modbus communication.

When the Labview is installed on a newer computer box with a PCI-8431 providing the Modbus communication, the same VI running on Labview 8.5 runs for a few seconds before giving a Timeout 6101 error.

I've read a number of other discussions about knowing the max amount of registers that can be processed within a time frame - but it doesn't seem realistic that it runs fine on one setup and not the next if the limits of the protocol are being exceeded.  Is the timing in such an environment so critical that timeouts need to be fine tuned based on the source hardware?
