Difficulty communicating with the Metronix ARS 2000 Servo drive

I have a Metronix ARS 2000 servo drive module that is equipped with their 'Ethernet Technology Module' that allows control using an ethernet connection. The software that ships with the device can connect and communicate successfully. I know the IP number of the device and the port number that is used for comms. The comms uses RS232 commands that are tunnelled in UDP/IP.

The drive has a static IP address that is pingable, and is connected to a separate network card on my PC which also has a static IP address in the same network segment as the IP address of the servo drive.

I would like to be able to control the servo drive from within a Labview program but there is no Labview driver available for the device. I am trying to setup the device in MAX but I am not succeeding.

  • I right click on Devices and Interfaces and select 'New'
  • I select 'VISA TCP/IP Resource', and 'Next'
  • I select 'Manual Entry of Raw Socket' and 'Next'
  • I enter the IP address and port number and select 'Validate'

It generates the error message in the attachment and does not create the VISA resource.

I would be really grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to what I should do next.
