I am posting this here because it took me a while to fix and other people may have the same problem now or in the future.
When I started MAX on a machine that I have not had MAX running on for quite a while I got a error that came up that said "The Max Database is Not Running. Restart your system and try again. Visit NI.com/info and enter the info code MAXStoppedServiceError if the problem persists"
After getting the above error I followed the advice I found on the NI website about starting the service but every time I tried to start the service I was getting Code 5 - Access denied. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the NI software on my machine and this did not fix the problem. After a lot of searching and digging I found a note on the internet about taking/changing the ownership of a folder to resolve this error. On my computer the ownership of C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments was assigned to SYSTEM. I changed the ownership of this folder to Administrators and then I was able to start the NI Configuration Manager service and get MAX to behave right. To change the owner
I had to right click on the folder ( C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments)>>select properties>>go to security tab>click on advanced>>go to owner tab>>change current owner to Administrators (XXX\Administrators). Since the computer I am on is a work computer I had to use the name of the local computer(XXX above)\administrators to get everything to work right. On a computer that is not on a central login server the XXX/computer name may not be needed.
I do not know if this is in the right place for this or if I should put is somewhere else but this seemed like a good starting location. I figured if it was on the forums people could find this solution in a search and it may be beneficial to them since it took me over a day to fix this problem.
